Starting around 1999, content in ASPET's journals that were published from 1997 onward was made freely accessible 12 months after publication. In 2018, the Society examined the financial impact of having 22 years of free content and rethought its access policy.

13- The Electrochemical Society's Approach to OA, Read & Publish, and Plan S
 In 2016, ECS launched Free the Science, a bold, business-model changing initiative to make the society’s research freely available to all readers, while remaining free for authors to publish. Because of this initiative, ECS is uniquely positioned to handle open access regardless of changes in funder requirements and other disruptions to the publishing industry. This session will explore the tactics taken since the launch of Free the Science, including ECS’s read-and-publish model, ECS Plus, and provide insight to how society publishers can take advantage of multiple tactics to progress their open access publishing.

17- How AI and Natural Language Processing Can Increase the Speed and Quality of Publishing
For quite a few years, artificial intelligence seemed like just another buzzy term with vague implications on the publishing industry. But now, publishers are putting it into action. Through a range of applications, AI and natural language processing are being used to streamline workflows, produce higher-quality content, and improve the author experience. Greater automation also frees up valuable time to focus on critical efforts requiring human analysis and subject matter expertise. Atul Goel of Cenveo will describe current uses and future applications of AI and NLP in scholarly publishing and how they’re combining to make research and publications more timely, relevant and useful.
